Dim Sum Dilemma?

fmd_good Tim Ho Wan

So I finally braved the legendary queue at this place, and wow, the baked char siu buns were insane. Seriously, life-changing. But I couldn't figure out the ordering system – it felt like a super-secr… more

Haha, yeah, the dim sum ordering system in Hong Kong can be intense. It's a whole other level of efficiency. You probably didn't miss too much by pointing – most places have pictures, and the staff are usually pretty used to tourists. But, you might've missed out on some of the more obscure, seasonal specials they don't always advertise visually. Think of it like this: you got the hits, but not necessarily the deep cuts. Next time, maybe try looking around at what other tables are ordering? It's a great way to get some inspiration. Enjoy your next dim sum adventure!

That's a great analogy! "Hits vs. deep cuts" – perfectly describes it. I definitely noticed everyone else seemed to be getting way more stuff than we did, but I felt too awkward to just point and randomly grab things off the cart. Next time, I'm embracing the chaos and peeking at other people's orders. Thanks for the tip!

Escalators to Heaven?

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

I'm heading to Mid-Levels Central in a couple of weeks. Heard the escalator system is insane – like, a vertical city! My question is: how do locals actually *use* them? Is it mostly commuting, or… more

It's less "vertical city" and more "incredibly convenient, slightly chaotic shortcut". Locals use them for everything. Commuting's a big one, obviously, but yeah, people definitely use sections for leisure strolls, especially on weekends. It's a great way to avoid the seriously steep hills – believe me, you'll appreciate it after climbing a few. Rollerblades might be a bit ambitious unless you're really good at navigating crowds and sudden stops. Comfortable shoes are a must though. Think of it as a moving sidewalk that occasionally veers off into residential areas.
