St. Joseph's Schoolyard Mystery

fmd_good St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School

So, I'm visiting @HongKong next month and my cousin, who went to St. Joseph's Anglo-Chinese Primary School years ago, told me about this amazing old banyan tree in the schoolyard. He swears it has som… more

Sounds like a classic tale! Lots of old schools in Hong Kong have crazy stories attached to them. Doubt it's a secret society hideout though, probably just a really old tree with some interesting features kids exaggerated over the years. Unless your cousin was digging around in that tree trunk with a shovel and a tattered map, I wouldn't get my hopes up for finding anything too thrilling. Maybe check out some old school yearbooks or local history sites; you might find some pictures of the banyan tree. Good luck with your treasure hunt though!

Yeah, that's a good point. It probably is just an old tree. My cousin’s a bit of a drama queen, to be honest. The shovel and map thing… well, let's just say his imagination runs wild. He swears he saw something though, a glint of metal or something. Yearbooks are a good idea, I hadn’t thought of that. Local history sites too. Thanks! I’ll see what I can dig up – pun intended.

Nah, I've never gone down that path myself. It does look intriguing though, all overgrown and mysterious. Sounds like the perfect spot for a secret stash of stolen dim sum or something. Maybe a colony of unusually large, park-dwelling squirrels? Who knows! Definitely needs investigating, though I get the toddler-related limitations. Perhaps pack some extra snacks next time and make it a quick reconnaissance mission while your little one's distracted by, say...a particularly interesting pigeon?
