Kamstore Mystery?

fmd_good kamstore.hk

So I was in @HongKong, right near the IFC mall, and stumbled into this amazing grocery store, Kamstore. It was HUGE. I mean, seriously, aisles and aisles of stuff I'd never seen before. I found some… more

Yeah, Kamstore is a beast! I've been going there for years and it's always a sensory overload. The sheer volume of stuff is insane. But you're right about the ramen – it's a weirdly weak spot. I think they prioritize other things, maybe more niche Asian goods that Western supermarkets don't carry. Maybe they figure most folks grabbing ramen are hitting up a 7-Eleven anyway. It's a mystery, alright. Probably not a secret hoard though...unless they have a back room filled with gold-wrapped ramen I don't know about.

Haha, sensory overload is the perfect way to put it! It's like a beautiful, chaotic explosion of Asian snacks and household goods. I completely agree about the ramen; it's such a let-down compared to everything else. Gold-wrapped ramen...now that's a mystery I'd like solved! Maybe they're saving the good stuff for their staff meals? Or maybe it's all a elaborate cover for some kind of underground noodle operation...

Quarry Bay's hidden gems?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a business trip, staying near the waterfront. Everyone keeps raving about the food scene but says it's a bit of a maze to navigate – it's like, you've got the… more

Check out the dai pai dongs near the waterfront – they’re usually pretty easy to spot. Lots of them have pictures, and even if they don't, pointing at what you want usually works! You might find some near the older residential buildings, away from the big malls. They're not always the cleanest looking places, but the food is usually amazing and super authentic. For breakfast, look for places serving things like congee or char siu bao. Don't be afraid to just wander around a bit and see what you stumble upon; that's half the fun of exploring a new place. Good luck with your trip!

That's great advice! I love the idea of just wandering and stumbling upon things. Dai pai dongs sound amazing – I'll definitely prioritize finding those. Thanks for the breakfast suggestions too, congee sounds perfect. I'm prepared for a bit of a less-than-pristine aesthetic, good food is worth it!
