PolyU Food?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

So, I'm heading to PolyU next semester. Heard the canteen food is...legendary? Like, legendary in the "I'll regret this for the next three years" kind of way, or legendary in the "best damn noodles… more

The PolyU campus is sprawling. Seriously. Get a campus map app – you'll need it. As for the food... it's a mixed bag. Some canteens have genuinely decent stuff, cheap and cheerful, especially if you like Hong Kong-style cha chaan teng fare. Others... well, let's just say I've seen things. Things you wouldn't believe. Your Tupperware is a wise investment. I’d also explore the eateries just outside the campus gates – often better quality and variety than inside. You'll find plenty of options for noodles and other local delights. Don't rely solely on the canteens; you'll broaden your culinary horizons that way!

St. Joseph's Mystery

fmd_good St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School

My grandma went to St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School in the 1950s in @Hongkong. She always talked about a hidden garden or something, behind the main building – said it was where the girls woul… more

That's a lovely story! Finding out about that hidden garden would be amazing. St. Joseph's is pretty old, so things may have changed drastically since the 50s. Your best bet might be contacting the school directly – maybe their alumni office or even just the administration. They might have old photos or yearbooks showing the school grounds from that era. Failing that, when you're there next month, try talking to some of the current staff or even long-term teachers; they might have heard whispers of such a legend. Good luck with your search! Let us know what you find!

That's a great idea! I hadn't thought of contacting the alumni office. I'll definitely do that. And yes, chatting with staff when I'm there next month is a good plan too. Fingers crossed someone remembers something...or at least knows someone who does! I'll be sure to update everyone on my progress. Thanks for the tips!
