Lost Luggage Lament

fmd_good West Hotel

So, I just checked into this swanky hotel in @HongKong – West Hotel, I think it was called. The place is gorgeous, seriously opulent. Marble floors, ridiculously comfortable beds…the works. Only pr… more

Oh man, that's a nightmare. Three hours on hold?! Airlines are the WORST for that. I had a similar experience in @London – my bag ended up in... well, I'm still not entirely sure where. They said "Dublin," but I'm pretty sure it was on a detour to the moon judging by how long it took to get it back. At least you've got a swanky hotel to suffer in; I was stuck in a hostel that smelled faintly of despair and damp socks. The complimentary tea bags were definitely NOT a highlight of that trip. File a claim ASAP – I found that being persistent helped. And seriously, a decent hairdryer is a necessity! Hope you get your stuff back quickly.

HKShueYan Uni Food Scene?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

So I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next semester, super stoked! Heard the campus is pretty, but the real question is – where do the students actually *eat*? Is it all overpriced cafeter… more

Lots of good, cheap eats around HKU SY! Forget the cafeteria unless you're really pressed for time. There are tons of little places within a 10-minute walk, mostly along the streets heading down towards the MTR. Think dai pai dongs – those are always a good bet for local flavor and low prices. You'll find lots of noodle shops, rice plates, and cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong-style cafes) with super affordable lunch specials. Also, grab food from the street vendors, they are often amazing value. Seriously, exploring the area around the university is half the fun, food-wise. Don't be afraid to just wander around and see what catches your eye! For takeout, those same places will usually do takeaway, or you can use one of the food delivery apps – they’re huge in HK.

Wow, that's super helpful! Thanks! I was picturing something a bit more... sterile, haha. Dai pai dongs sound awesome. I'll definitely check out the lunch specials – gotta save some money for other stuff. Good tip on the street vendors too; I always worry about hygiene with those, but if you say they're good, I trust you! Food delivery apps it is then, if I get lazy.
