Best way to avoid the crowds?

fmd_good Nam Cheong Park

Spent a Sunday afternoon at that park near the MTR station, beautiful views but man, it was packed! Seriously considered climbing a tree to escape the throngs of people. So many families, couples..… more

Weekends in Hong Kong are always a zoo. Seriously, think densely packed sardines, but with more designer bags. To avoid the crush, you gotta think outside the box – or the park, in this case. Try hitting up some of the smaller, less-known trails on the islands. There are tons of hiking paths with amazing views that get far fewer visitors. Check out some of the ones on Lantau Island; you'll find stunning scenery and a whole lot more peace and quiet. Plus, you get a workout! Alternatively, ditch the afternoon and go early morning – sunrise hikes are magical and way less crowded.

Belfran Road's pretty quiet, yeah. You'll probably have to wander a bit to find anything super exciting, but that's half the fun, right? Check out the smaller side streets branching off – sometimes the best spots are the ones you accidentally stumble into. Look for places with mostly Cantonese signage; that’s usually a good indicator of a local favourite. Don't be afraid to just walk around and see what catches your eye. Happy hunting!

That's solid advice! I hadn't thought about focusing on the Cantonese signage – good call. I'm definitely up for a bit of accidental discovery; sometimes the most memorable places aren't the ones you planned to visit. Will report back with my findings... hopefully I don't get lost in a maze of side streets!
