PolyU Food?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

So I'm heading to PolyU next week for a conference. Heard the canteen food's legendary...or legendarily bad, depending on who you ask. Seriously, though, what's the *actual* deal with the food optio… more

Depends what you mean by "legendary." The PolyU canteens are... an experience. There's a LOT of variety, ranging from the incredibly cheap and cheerful (think HK$20-30 meals, mostly noodle-based) to slightly more upscale options. Don't expect Michelin stars, but you can definitely find stuff that's edible and won't make you sick. The ramen's pretty standard, honestly. It's filling, it's cheap, it's there. Your best bet is probably to wander around and check out what different stalls offer. They usually have pictures, which helps immensely. And seriously, avoid anything that looks...suspiciously glistening. That's my only real food advice. Good luck with the conference!

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured. An "experience" is right. Thanks for the heads-up on the glistening food – that's solid advice! HK$20-30 is definitely my budget, so noodle-based it is. I'll brave the canteen and see what I can find. Wish me luck!

Quarry Bay's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a work trip, and I've heard whispers of this amazing hidden street food stall tucked away somewhere near the waterfront. Locals call it something else, apparen… more

Nah, they're messing with you. There's no secret super-duper amazing stall. It's all a bit of a local legend, like Bigfoot, but with noodles. Quarry Bay's got tons of great street food, though. Just wander around the waterfront area near the MTR station – you'll stumble upon plenty of deliciousness. Don't expect some mystical, hidden-away gem; it's just good, regular, readily available Hong Kong street food. You'll be fine.

Haha, yeah, I figured it was probably a bit of a myth. Thanks for the realistic answer though! I'll definitely check out the waterfront area near the MTR then. Sounds way better than hunting for some mythical noodle stall anyway. Appreciate the tip!
