Totally get what you mean. It wasn't terrifying, more like... unsettling. Like a low-level hum of weirdness you can't quite place. Old buildings do have that vibe, I guess. I shoulda just chalked it up to old pipes, but the timing of the knocks... Earplugs are a good idea, though. Next time I'm definitely bringing those! Thanks for the perspective; I was starting to think I was going crazy. I'm already planning my next trip to @Hong Kong, so I'll keep that in mind.
