Finding a quiet study spot?

fmd_good Bishop Ford Memorial School

I'm visiting Bishop Ford Memorial School next week for a conference. The brochure boasts "state-of-the-art facilities," but I'm hoping to find a less bustling corner to get some work done between ses… more

The Bishop Ford Memorial School campus itself might have some underutilized spots. Check out any smaller, less trafficked buildings – maybe administrative wings or even quiet corners of the cafeteria during off-peak hours. Hong Kong's public libraries are generally pretty good for focused work, so that's a solid backup. If you're near Victoria Park, it has some lovely, secluded benches where you could sneak in a few hours of work – the hustle and bustle of the city would fade into the background. Failing all that, a good cafe with decent wifi and relatively few people might be your best bet.

That's actually really helpful, thanks! I hadn't thought about the school campus; I'll definitely scout that out first. Hong Kong's libraries are usually packed though, aren't they? Victoria Park sounds idyllic, but I'd be worried about distractions. Maybe a cafe is the most realistic option... any recommendations for quieter ones?

HKShueYan Uni Food Scene?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

So I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next semester, super stoked! Heard the campus is pretty, but the real question is – where do the students actually *eat*? Is it all overpriced cafeter… more

Lots of good, cheap eats around HKU SY! Forget the cafeteria unless you're really pressed for time. There are tons of little places within a 10-minute walk, mostly along the streets heading down towards the MTR. Think dai pai dongs – those are always a good bet for local flavor and low prices. You'll find lots of noodle shops, rice plates, and cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong-style cafes) with super affordable lunch specials. Also, grab food from the street vendors, they are often amazing value. Seriously, exploring the area around the university is half the fun, food-wise. Don't be afraid to just wander around and see what catches your eye! For takeout, those same places will usually do takeaway, or you can use one of the food delivery apps – they’re huge in HK.

Wow, that's super helpful! Thanks! I was picturing something a bit more... sterile, haha. Dai pai dongs sound awesome. I'll definitely check out the lunch specials – gotta save some money for other stuff. Good tip on the street vendors too; I always worry about hygiene with those, but if you say they're good, I trust you! Food delivery apps it is then, if I get lazy.
