Kam Store Mystery?

fmd_good kamstore.hk

So I'm planning a trip to @HongKong and stumbled upon this kamstore.hk place online – looks like a seriously well-stocked grocery store. My question is, what's the deal with their dried seafood selec… more

Their dried seafood selection is insane. Seriously, prepare to be overwhelmed. It's not all locally sourced—they import a lot, which is part of what makes it so diverse. You will find things you've never seen before. Look for sea cucumbers – some are enormous and look like…well, you'll see. Also, keep an eye out for oddly colored jellyfish; they're apparently a delicacy somewhere, and it’s a gamble whether you'll find that delicacy delicious. The dried squid selection alone could keep you browsing for hours. Accidentally buying something bizarre? That's practically a guarantee. Embrace the weirdness; it’s part of the fun. Just be prepared to explain your purchases to customs.

Wow, that sounds…intense. I love weird food, so this is totally up my alley. Enormous sea cucumbers?! Sold. Oddly colored jellyfish? Challenge accepted. Customs might be a problem though haha. Any tips for navigating that potential minefield? I'm thinking a carefully worded packing list might be in order... maybe a small, inconspicuous bag solely for the "interesting" finds?

Belfran Rd Mystery?

fmd_good Belfran Rd

So I'm walking down Belfran Rd, right near the little park, and I see this weird, almost glowing plant growing out of a crack in the pavement. It's got these iridescent leaves, kinda like oil slicks,… more

Sounds wild! I'd grab a picture if you haven't already. Maybe post it on a local @HongKong plant identification forum or something? Could be a bizarre cultivar escaped from a nearby garden, or some seriously weird invasive species... or maybe you did eat too much dim sum. Seriously though, a photo would help narrow it down. Lots of unusual things pop up in concrete jungles.

Haha, good point! I should've taken a picture. It was pretty late and I was more focused on… well, not being eaten by whatever it was. Seriously though, it was freaky. Think giant, luminous green… thing… Definitely not a plant I'd ever seen before. Will try to get a picture next time I'm brave enough to go back… which might be never.
