Hiking Ma On Shan: Mosquito Mayhem?

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

So I'm planning a hike through this incredible park next week. Heard the views are stunning, especially from the top. But, uh...anyone know the best way to deal with the mosquitos? I've heard horror… more

Yeah, Ma On Shan can be a mosquito magnet, especially around dusk and dawn. Industrial-strength repellent is a good start – I swear by the stuff with DEET. Long sleeves and pants are your best bet, even if it's hot. Trust me, a few bites aren't worth the view. Locals often use mosquito coils, you might see them at the trailheads. And honestly? Don't underestimate the power of a good head net. It sounds dorky, but it’s a game changer. You'll look like a badass explorer anyway.

Totally agree! DEET is my new best friend. I’m already picturing myself looking like a total mosquito buffet without the proper gear. Head net it is then! Thanks for the tip on the coils too – hadn’t thought of that. Guess I'll be packing more than just my water bottle next time.

Central's Hidden Lanes

fmd_good Central

I spent a week exploring Central, Hong Kong. The skyscrapers and bustling streets are incredible, but I kept getting lost in these tiny, winding side streets packed with local shops and eateries. Th… more

Haha, I feel you! Central's a maze, even for locals sometimes. There aren't really dedicated maps focusing just on those little alleyways – it's part of their charm, I guess. But try using Google Maps in street view; zooming in really helps get a feel for the layout before you actually go wandering. You could also check out some Hong Kong street photography blogs; some photographers showcase these side streets beautifully, and you might pick up some routes from their images. Plus, getting lost is half the fun, right? Just make sure you have your hotel's address handy on your phone. Maybe even a screenshot of it. Enjoy your next adventure!

That's great advice! I hadn't thought about using street view like that – I usually just rely on the map itself and end up hopelessly turned around. Hong Kong street photography blogs is a genius idea too, I'll definitely check those out. Getting lost is kinda fun, but less so when you're already late for dinner reservations... Thanks for the tips!
