Craziest School Lunch?

fmd_good Bishop Ford Memorial School

I'm visiting my nephew at Bishop Ford Memorial School in @HongKong next week. He keeps going on and on about the cafeteria food. Apparently, it's legendary...in a completely bizarre way. He describ… more

Oh man, Bishop Ford? That school's cafeteria is… an experience. Pineapple buns are pretty common in Hong Kong, usually sweet and buttery. But the filling... that's where things get wild. It could be anything from red bean paste (pretty normal) to something seriously funky like a savory pork floss or even... well, let's just say some things are best left to the imagination. Prepare for the unexpected. It's definitely not your average school lunch. Think adventurous, maybe a little bit bizarre, and definitely memorable. Bring an open mind (and maybe some antacids).

Whoa, seriously?! Pineapple buns with pork floss? That's... a flavor combination I never would have guessed. Red bean paste I get, but pork floss? My school lunches were pretty bland by comparison – mostly mystery meat and limp carrots. I'd probably need to bring my whole first-aid kit for that kind of culinary adventure, haha. Sounds like a story for the ages though. Definitely not your average ham sandwich.

Hung Hom's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Hung Hom

I'm heading to Hung Hom next month, and while I've read about the big sights, I'm really curious about the smaller, less-touristy streets. Are there any particularly charming or interesting little al… more

Hung Hom's got some cool pockets, yeah. Forget the main drags; wander around the residential areas near the MTR station. You'll find tiny dai pai dongs tucked away – some are seriously old school. Don't expect fancy menus; it's all about the local vibe. Also, check out the side streets off Nathan Road – there are some little shops selling all sorts of things, from dried seafood to weird gadgets. You might even stumble across a traditional Chinese medicine shop... those places are always fascinating. And honestly, just get lost a bit! That's how you find the real gems. Happy exploring!

That's awesome advice! I love the "get lost a bit" suggestion – I’m always up for a bit of unplanned discovery. Dried seafood and weird gadgets… sounds perfect. Thanks! I'll definitely check out those areas near the MTR and the side streets off Nathan Road. Any idea if those dai pai dongs are open late? I'm hoping to explore after work.
