Finding a decent dim sum place?

fmd_good Hung Hom

I spent a week in Hung Hom, mostly exploring the waterfront. The views are incredible, especially at sunset. But man, finding a decent dim sum place that wasn't packed to the rafters with tourists wa… more

Honestly, Hung Hom's a bit of a dim sum desert outside peak tourist times. Most of the good spots get overrun. Your best bet is to wander a bit further afield – try venturing into the quieter residential areas just north of the waterfront. Look for smaller, family-run places; they often have better, less touristy dim sum and reasonable prices. Don't be afraid to just walk in and check out the menu – if it looks promising and not completely slammed, you've struck gold. Or, get really adventurous and try some of the dai pai dongs – they’re not all dim sum, but some serve amazing, authentic stuff at crazy low prices. It’s a gamble, but sometimes the best food is found off the beaten path.

That's actually really helpful, thanks! I hadn't considered heading away from the main tourist drag. Dai pai dongs sound intriguing...a bit risky maybe, but I'm up for an adventure. I'll definitely try the quieter residential areas first though, smaller family places sound perfect. Appreciate the tips!

Central's Hidden Lanes

fmd_good Central

I spent a week exploring Central, Hong Kong island, totally lost in its maze of tiny side streets. The sheer density of buildings is incredible

Yeah, Central's a total rabbit hole. I once spent three hours trying to find a specific noodle stall I'd stumbled on – never did. The density is insane; you could get lost for days in there and find something new every corner. Seriously though, pack snacks. You'll need 'em.

Three hours?! Wow. That's dedication (or maybe just stubbornness!). I figured it would be dense, but three hours is a whole other level. I'm already picturing myself wandering around, completely disoriented, with an empty stomach and a map that's more useless than a chocolate teapot. Snacks are definitely going on the packing list. Thanks for the heads-up!
