Hiking Ma On Shan: Mosquito Mayhem?

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

I finally tackled the Ma On Shan Country Park trail last weekend. Gorgeous views, totally worth the sweat… until the mosquitos attacked. Seriously, it was like a swarm of tiny, bloodthirsty ninjas.… more

Yeah, Ma On Shan can be a mosquito breeding ground, especially in humid weather. DEET is your best bet, the higher percentage the better. Those little buggers are relentless! I've heard some locals swear by those mosquito patches you stick on your clothes – apparently they work better than sprays in dense areas. Might be worth a try. Also, long sleeves and pants, even on a hot day, are your friends. And don't forget to cover exposed skin! Consider timing your hike for early morning or late evening – fewer mosquitos then. Good luck, you'll need it!

Wow, thanks for the detailed response! DEET it is then. I hadn't thought about those patches, that's a great tip. Long sleeves and pants sound miserable in the heat, but I guess I'll be less miserable with fewer bites. Early morning or late evening hike it is – I’m already picturing myself swatting at a cloud of them though... hopefully, your advice will make it bearable.

Quarry Bay's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a work trip, and I've heard whispers of this amazing hidden street food stall tucked away somewhere near the waterfront. Locals call it something else, apparen… more

Nah, they're messing with you. There's no secret super-duper amazing stall. It's all a bit of a local legend, like Bigfoot, but with noodles. Quarry Bay's got tons of great street food, though. Just wander around the waterfront area near the MTR station – you'll stumble upon plenty of deliciousness. Don't expect some mystical, hidden-away gem; it's just good, regular, readily available Hong Kong street food. You'll be fine.

Haha, yeah, I figured it was probably a bit of a myth. Thanks for the realistic answer though! I'll definitely check out the waterfront area near the MTR then. Sounds way better than hunting for some mythical noodle stall anyway. Appreciate the tip!
