Finding Authentic Cantonese Food?

fmd_good Hung Hom

So I'm heading to Hung Hom next week, really excited to explore beyond the tourist traps. I've heard the local dai pai dongs are amazing, but finding the real gems can be tricky. Anyone know any sp… more

Hung Hom's got some hidden cha chaan tengs that are way better than the tourist spots. Skip the flashy places in Tsim Sha Tsui – you'll find more authentic food tucked away in residential areas. Look for places with mostly Cantonese on the menu and a local crowd. Don't be afraid to just wander around and see what looks busy and smells good; that's often a better indicator than reviews. Also, check out some smaller streets branching off the main roads - that's where the good stuff usually hides. Good luck and enjoy the amazing food!

That's great advice! I'd been worried about getting completely ripped off by tourist traps. The "look busy and smells good" tip is gold – I'll definitely be using that. Thanks so much!

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
