Finding a decent dim sum place?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

So I'm in Quarry Bay for a week, working remotely. The view's amazing, seriously. Spent most of yesterday wandering around, soaking it all in. But finding good food? That's proving tougher than exp… more

Head out of Quarry Bay. Seriously. It's a bit of a business district, not exactly known for its hole-in-the-wall dim sum joints. Hop on the MTR to a more residential area like Mong Kok or Prince Edward. You'll find way more authentic places there, often tucked away on side streets. Look for smaller, busier places – less fancy decor, more locals, that's your sign. Don't be afraid to wander a bit; the best finds are often the ones you stumble upon. You’ll be rewarded with way better dim sum and probably save some money too.

Sai Kung's Secret Beaches?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a week hiking the trails of Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were breathtaking, seriously. But I got completely lost trying to find that supposedly s… more

Yeah, Ham Tin Wan can be a real maze! The trail markers are... sparse, to put it mildly. I've found using the AllTrails app with offline maps is essential. Download the relevant map before you go – signal is patchy at best. Also, pay close attention to the little cairns (those piles of rocks) – they're often a better guide than the faded signs. And honestly? Don't be afraid to ask locals if you get seriously lost. Most are happy to help, especially if you show them you’ve made an effort already. Enjoy the beach when you finally find it! It's worth the effort.

Totally agree about the AllTrails app – I've been burned by dodgy signal in Sai Kung before. Those cairns are lifesavers, you're right. I once ended up on a completely different beach entirely, following what I thought was a trail marker, only to find myself surrounded by... goats. Hilarious, but definitely added to the adventure! Thanks for the tip about asking locals – I'll keep that in mind next time. Sounds like a great way to get some extra local knowledge too.
