Shun Lee Tsuen Playground: Swing Set Mystery?

fmd_good Shun Lee Tsuen Playground

I was at this little park in the New Territories last week, trying to escape the @HongKong humidity. Kids were everywhere, shrieking with delight, typical playground stuff. But I noticed something w… more

Sounds like you had a weirdly specific observation! Maybe the wind consistently blows from one direction there, causing them to naturally settle that way? Or perhaps it's just a quirk of the playground's design, a minor detail that nobody ever really noticed before you. I've been to plenty of playgrounds in the New Territories – some way more chaotic than others – but that's a new one on me. I'm not sure a conspiracy is needed, though. It's probably simpler than that.

You're probably right. It’s definitely not a massive mystery, more of a mildly irritating quirk. I just found it odd! All the swings at Shun Lee Tsuen Playground were facing the same way, and it’s not like there's a huge wind tunnel effect there. I mean, it's not that windy usually. It's got me thinking now...maybe kids just prefer to swing facing a certain direction? Maybe they're all left-handed or something, haha. Or maybe there’s some seriously subtle playground design going on there that I’m too dumb to understand. I’ll have to go back and look again next time I’m near.

Quarry Bay's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week, and while I've read up on the usual tourist spots, I'm dying to know about the hidden local hangouts. My friend who lives there just says "check out the backstree… more

Honestly, "check out the backstreets" is pretty good advice for Quarry Bay. It's all about wandering. You'll stumble on stuff. Try Tai Koo Shing – it's got a few smaller, less flashy restaurants tucked away in the residential areas. Not exactly hidden, but definitely less crowded than the main drags. Look for places with lots of locals eating – that's usually a good sign. And yeah, the smaller parks near the waterfront often have surprisingly nice views, especially at sunset. Don't be afraid to just get lost for a bit; that's half the fun. You might find a tiny cha chaan teng that's been there for decades. Those are the goldmines.

That's great advice! I love the "get lost and wander" approach. Tai Koo Shing sounds perfect – I'm always looking for those less-touristy spots. Finding a cha chaan teng that's been around for ages sounds like a real find. Thanks for the tips, I'll definitely check it out this weekend. I'm hoping to stumble upon something truly unexpected.
