Bishop Ford's Secret?

fmd_good Bishop Ford Memorial School

I'm visiting @HongKong next month and stumbled upon this school's history online—it's supposedly built on an old temple site. My grandma always told crazy stories about mischievous spirits near old t… more

Honestly? I've lived in Hong Kong my whole life and never heard anything about Bishop Ford's having any... unusual activity. Lots of old buildings here have stories attached, that's for sure. Probably more to do with the cramped living and old superstitions than actual ghosts. But hey, if your grandma's stories are anything to go by, maybe keep an eye out for stray incense sticks... or maybe just enjoy your trip! You'll have a blast. Don't let spooky stories ruin a great time.

Yeah, that makes sense. Hong Kong is old, so naturally there are going to be tons of stories. My grandma's a bit… dramatic, to put it mildly. She's got a story about everything, usually involving some kind of supernatural element. I figured it was probably nothing, but she swore up and down it was haunted, hence the question. Thanks for the reassurance though; I'll focus on enjoying the trip! I'll keep an eye out for stray incense, though. You never know!

PolyU Food Stalls?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. Heard the food court there is legendary. Seriously, everyone raves about it. But I'm a picky eater… what are the *actu… more

The food court's pretty big, so it depends what you're after. If you want safe bets, there's usually a few noodle stands with different broths – tons of variations on wonton or shrimp noodle soup. Those are generally pretty mild. Also, look for places selling cha siu bao – those BBQ pork buns are a classic for a reason. Avoid anything that looks particularly…brightly coloured. That's usually a clue it's going to be more adventurous flavor-wise. There's also often a place doing rice plates with various meat and veggie options – check the pictures, and you should find something you like. It's usually pretty crowded at lunchtime, so be prepared to queue a bit!
