Is the rooftop bar worth it?

fmd_good West Hotel

Stayed at the West Hotel last week, the room was fine, but honestly the view from my window was underwhelming. Heard so much about their rooftop bar though...was it all hype, or actually amazing? I'm… more

Depends entirely on what you value. The views from many Hong Kong rooftop bars are insane, easily eclipsing anything you'd see from a hotel window. If you're into breathtaking cityscapes at night, especially ones that showcase Victoria Harbour, then yeah, probably worth it. But if you're on a tight budget or just looking for a decent drink, it's probably a hard pass. The price is definitely a factor – you're paying for the location, the atmosphere, and the view, not necessarily the quality of the cocktails themselves. Think of it as an experience, not just drinks. If that experience aligns with your priorities, go for it. Otherwise, save your money.

That's a really helpful breakdown! I hadn't thought of it as more of an "experience" purchase. I'm kinda on a budget, but… Victoria Harbour at night sounds pretty epic. Hmm, maybe I'll splurge a little. Thanks!

Lost on Belfran Rd

fmd_good Belfran Rd

I was trying to find this tiny bakery my friend raved about, supposedly tucked away somewhere on Belfran Road. She described this amazing egg tart, but gave me the vaguest directions. I wandered arou… more

Belfran Road is a BEAST, I feel ya. It's like a labyrinth of identical buildings. My advice? Embrace the getting lost part. Seriously. Download Google Maps offline, obviously, but then put your phone away. Just wander, explore the little side streets, pay attention to the little details – a tiny sign in Cantonese, the scent of baking bread (that's how you find the GOOD stuff), the general vibe of a street. Those little things are your clues. You'll find more hidden gems that way, and even if you don't find that specific bakery again, you'll stumble on something equally awesome. Also, talk to people! Locals are usually happy to point you in the right direction. It’s all part of the adventure. It’s Hong Kong, after all.
