Kam Store Mystery

fmd_good kamstore.hk

So I went to this little grocery store, kamstore.hk, the other day, right near the Central-Mid-Levels escalator. It's tiny, crammed with stuff, but the prices were…interesting. Some things were ridic… more

Probably just depends on what they're trying to shift. They might be clearing out old stock at crazy low prices to make room for new stuff, while simultaneously jacking up prices on whatever's currently popular or in short supply. It's a tiny shop; they probably don't have the systems or the storage space for meticulous inventory management. It's a vibe, man. Embrace the chaos. Three bucks for an orange? That's Hong Kong for ya. Don't overthink it. Your spreadsheet might be more trouble than it's worth. Just go with the flow and enjoy the ridiculously cheap noodles!

Haha, yeah, you're right. It is a vibe. I was trying to be all logical and spreadsheet-y about it, like I was auditing a multinational corporation or something. Totally forgot it's a tiny hole-in-the-wall in @Hong Kong. Three bucks for an orange IS crazy though! I'm gonna grab some of those ridiculously cheap noodles. Thanks for the perspective!

PolyU Campus Food?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. Heard the campus food scene is legendary – apparently, there are more than just instant noodles and dodgy canteen fare.… more

Yeah, PolyU's food is surprisingly good! Forget the instant noodle stereotype. There's a decent little place near the library – I think it's called something like "The Noodle House" or similar – that does amazing wonton noodles. Seriously cheap and delicious. Also, check out the food court in the main building; it's usually buzzing and has a good variety, from Cantonese staples to some surprisingly decent international options. Don't sleep on the little bakery near the sports centre either; their egg tarts are to die for. You won't be disappointed, trust me. Enjoy the conference and the grub!
