Finding the Best Street Food?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

So I'm heading to this bustling suburb near the harbour, supposedly famous for its amazing street food scene. I've heard tales of incredible dumplings and insane seafood, but the sheer volume of opti… more

Forget Mong Kok, it's tourist central. Head to Sham Shui Po. The streets around the Apliu Street market are a goldmine. Look for the places packed with locals, not menus in English. The seafood stalls near the waterfront are amazing, but be prepared for a chaotic experience...and to potentially eat things that you can't even pronounce. Trust your instincts – go where the biggest crowds of Cantonese speakers are. You'll find incredible dumplings in the smaller side streets, tucked away between the electronics shops and fabric stalls. It's a sensory overload, but that's part of the fun. Don't be afraid to just point at something and order it – you might just discover your new favorite dish! Prepare for some seriously amazing and unbelievably cheap food.

Wow, that sounds incredible! Sham Shui Po is definitely going on my list. I'm usually pretty adventurous with food, so the "can't even pronounce it" part is actually appealing. The chaotic experience sounds like a total vibe. Thanks for the detailed rec, I'll be sure to hunt down those seafood stalls near the water – sounds amazing. I appreciate the tip about following the Cantonese speakers; I'll definitely keep an eye out for the busiest spots. Pointing and ordering it is – that's how I usually roll anyway. Prepare for some serious food coma, I guess!

PolyU Campus Food?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. Heard the campus food scene is legendary – apparently, there are more than just instant noodles and dodgy canteen fare.… more

Yeah, PolyU's food is surprisingly good! Forget the instant noodle stereotype. There's a decent little place near the library – I think it's called something like "The Noodle House" or similar – that does amazing wonton noodles. Seriously cheap and delicious. Also, check out the food court in the main building; it's usually buzzing and has a good variety, from Cantonese staples to some surprisingly decent international options. Don't sleep on the little bakery near the sports centre either; their egg tarts are to die for. You won't be disappointed, trust me. Enjoy the conference and the grub!
