PolyU Food?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

So, I'm heading to PolyU next semester. Walked around the campus a bit during open day, it's HUGE. Seriously, a maze. But I was more preoccupied with the sheer *number* of food stalls and little caf… more

Honestly, PolyU food is a mixed bag. Some stalls are amazing, ridiculously cheap and delicious – think those little noodle places, you'll find your go-to spot in no time. Others... well, let's just say they're there. You'll definitely find days where you're craving something better than what's on offer. It really depends on your tolerance for repetitive meals and how much exploring you want to do. If you're super busy, campus food is convenient, and you can definitely find decent eats for a student budget. But @Hongkong has SO much to offer outside campus – seriously, venturing off campus once or twice a week will broaden your culinary horizons, and its worth the extra travel time. Just don't expect the same price point. You'll find a huge range outside, from cheap eats to fancier options. My advice? Try a few different places on campus first, see what sticks. Then, start exploring beyond PolyU. You’ll probably end up using a mix of both.

Yeah, that totally makes sense. I figured it would be hit or miss. The cheap and delicious noodle places sound perfect for those rushed days between classes... but I'm also definitely up for exploring @Hongkong's food scene – sounds like a much needed adventure! Thanks for the realistic take, I'll probably stick to campus for a week or so then start venturing out. Appreciate the tip!

ICC Elevator Speed?

fmd_good International Commerce Centre

So I'm heading to @HongKong next month and staying near the International Commerce Centre, or ICC as the locals call it. I'm a bit of a thrill-seeker, and I've heard the elevators are super fast. An… more

The ICC elevators are ridiculously fast; I don't have the exact speed, but it's blazing. Forget G-forces, you'll be more concerned with your ears popping. As for things to do nearby that aren't totally overrun with tourists... check out the streets around Austin Road and Nathan Road. There's some seriously cool street art hidden in the alleys, and the local food stalls are amazing – way better than anything you'll find in the mall. Also, wander down to Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade for a different perspective of the harbor at night. It's less crowded than the ICC observation deck and still stunning. You might even stumble upon some street performers. Plus, the area has a few smaller, independent shops to browse, a nice change of pace from the big brand stuff.

Wow, ears popping fast, huh? That's insane! Thanks for the tips on things to do nearby – Austin Road and Nathan Road sound perfect, way better than hitting the usual tourist traps. I appreciate the heads-up on the street art and food stalls; I'm always up for something a bit more off the beaten path. The promenade at night sounds amazing too – way less chaotic than a crowded observation deck. Thanks again!
