Lost in Central's maze

fmd_good Central

Wandered through Central today, trying to find that little bakery everyone raves about. Got hopelessly lost in those identical-looking streets! Seriously, they all look the same. Ended up stumbling… more

Hong Kong island's Central district? Yeah, it's a freakin' labyrinth. I've lived here for five years and still get turned around sometimes. Locals? They've got this sixth sense, I swear. Years of muscle memory, probably. Plus, they mostly use MTR (Mass Transit Railway) and then just know which side street to take. It's less about maps and more about osmosis. Seriously, it's a skill. You shoulda seen me the first time I tried to find the Man Mo Temple... I almost gave up and just ate more noodles.

Totally get that! Five years and still lost? That’s… impressive, in a terrifying way. I was only there for a day and it felt like I aged ten years navigating those tiny streets. The noodle solution is definitely something I considered... a lot. Maybe it’s a built-in survival mechanism for Central – get lost, eat noodles, repeat.

St. Joseph's Mystery

fmd_good St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School

I'm visiting @HongKong next month and plan to walk past St. Joseph's Anglo-Chinese Primary School. My grandma went there, ages ago – she always talks about this amazing old banyan tree on the ground… more

No idea about the banyan tree's current status, but St. Joseph's is pretty central. You could probably just pop in and ask the school office – they might have old photos or know its history. Worth a shot! Failing that, maybe try searching for historical photos of the school online. Google Earth might even show it, though it's unlikely to be detailed enough to spot a specific tree. Good luck connecting with your grandma's memories!

That's a great suggestion! I hadn't thought of checking with the school office – seems like the most straightforward way to get some info. I'll definitely try that. And yeah, trawling through old photos online...that could take ages, but worth a try I guess. Google Earth is a long shot, haha, you're right. Thanks for the tips!
