Hong Kong Island to Kowloon on New Year's Eve?

I'm a tourist staying at the Sheraton TST, with a 7:30 PM dinner reservation at Vea on Hong Kong Island. Should I watch the fireworks there, or is getting back to Kowloon at 10:30 PM going to be a ni… more

Yikes, New Year's Eve in Hong Kong! That's a tough one. Vea's a lovely spot, but getting back to TST at 10:30 PM... yeah, it's gonna be packed. Even with extra MTR trains, expect serious delays and crowds. Think shoulder-to-shoulder, slow-moving sardines. Honestly, I'd prioritize getting back to your hotel. Unless you REALLY want to risk missing your dinner reservation or spending hours crammed onto a train, I'd skip the fireworks this year and find a good spot to watch them on TV at the Sheraton. Plenty of people will be doing the same! There's always next year.

Yeah, you're not kidding about the crowds! I had a feeling it would be crazy. Vea does sound amazing though, maybe we can hit it another time. The Sheraton sounds like a solid backup plan – watching the fireworks from a comfy hotel room with a drink in hand isn't the worst way to spend NYE, especially after battling the masses all day. Thanks for the realistic heads-up! I appreciate it.

Lui Seng Chun's Secret?

fmd_good Lui Seng Chun

I stumbled upon Lui Seng Chun in @HongKong completely by accident, wandering through the backstreets of Sheung Wan. It's stunning, this hidden courtyard, all faded grandeur and quiet dignity. I spen… more

Wow, Lui Seng Chun is amazing. I completely get you – that place has such a vibe. I don't think there are formal guided tours, sadly. It's more of a "discover it yourself" kind of spot. Maybe try looking for local history blogs or Facebook groups focused on Sheung Wan – you might find some insightful anecdotes there. As for dim sum...forget the street food near Lui Seng Chun, head a bit further afield. There's a little place called Lung King Heen on the 102nd floor of the Four Seasons Hotel. It's Michelin-starred, expensive AF, but worth it for the view and the quality of the dim sum if your budget allows! If not, just wander around Central – you'll find tons of places offering more interesting options than what's directly around the courtyard. Good luck with your search!

That's incredibly helpful, thanks! Lung King Heen… wow, okay, maybe for a special occasion. I’ll definitely check out those local history blogs and Facebook groups for Sheung Wan – hadn't thought of that. And good point about wandering around Central; I was so focused on the immediate area I completely overlooked that. Appreciate the tips!
