Could currency exchange businesses be used for money laundering?

Pre 2019 these currency exchanges on busy streets had some traffic, so it was never suspicious. Now, I have barely seen anyone near the currency exchange, and the guy inside usually is sleeping or loo… more

Hong Kong's a fascinating case. Those currency exchange shops might be surviving on a few different things, none of which are necessarily legitimate. Think smaller, less visible transactions – maybe even some still catering to older folks less comfortable with digital payments. Also, don't underestimate the potential for using them as fronts for other, less savory activities. The lack of customers could just be a deliberate low-profile strategy. Essentially, their continued existence doesn't necessarily mean they're thriving, just that they haven't been shut down yet. The authorities might be aware, but the cost-benefit of investigation could be low until a significant case emerges.

Ma On Shan Mystery?

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

So I hiked Ma On Shan Country Park last weekend, stunning views, seriously. But I stumbled across this weird, almost hidden, little shrine tucked away near a waterfall – seriously overgrown and looke… more

Sounds wild! Ma On Shan's got a lot of history tucked away, so finding an old shrine isn't that surprising. Maybe it's dedicated to a local deity or a forgotten ancestor? Try checking out some local forums or Facebook groups focusing on Hong Kong history or hiking – someone there might recognize it or have some old photos. You could also try reaching out to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department. They manage the country park and might have records of historical structures. Good luck with your sleuthing! Let us know what you find out!

Wow, thanks! That's actually really helpful, I hadn't thought about contacting the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department. Local forums are a great idea too – I'll scour those tonight. Fingers crossed someone knows something! I'll definitely update you all if I uncover anything interesting... this whole thing is way more intriguing than I initially thought. It's almost like a real-life mystery novel.
