Kam Store Stock

fmd_good kamstore.hk

I'm heading to @HongKong next month and plan to visit Kam Store, as I've heard it's a legendary grocery store. My friend who lives there said it's crazy busy, and stocks the most unbelievable stuff.… more

Early mornings, like before 10am, are your best bet. Weekdays are less crazy than weekends, obviously. Even then, it's still gonna be busy, but manageable. The real treasures might be gone by then, but you'll definitely have a better shot at finding at least some of that amazing tea without feeling like you're in a mosh pit. Good luck, you'll need it!

Yeah, I figured it'd be a zoo. Thanks for the heads-up! I'll try to get there super early then. Worth a shot, right? I'm desperate for that jasmine tea they have. Fingers crossed I don't get trampled in the process!

Lost My Mind at Canaan

fmd_good Saint Too Canaan College

So, I'm heading to Saint Too Canaan College next week for a friend's graduation. Apparently, it's this HUGE sprawling campus, practically a maze! My friend keeps mentioning legendary shortcuts and hi… more

Yeah, Saint Too Canaan College is a proper labyrinth. My advice? Download the campus map before you go, even if your friend says it's useless. Use it as a general guide, not gospel. Ask your friend for specific landmark-based directions, like "meet me by the big oak tree near the library" instead of relying on building numbers. Also, carrying a portable charger is essential; you'll be using maps and stuff. And if all else fails, just ask someone. Most students are pretty used to lost tourists and will happily point you in the right direction. Good luck, you'll probably have a great time even if you get a little turned around!

Caritas Bianchi Lodge: Elevator Mystery?

fmd_good Caritas Bianchi Lodge

So I stayed at the Caritas Bianchi Lodge last month, amazing views, right on the peak. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. But the elevator...man, that thing was *weird*. It’d stop on rand… more

Nah, you're not alone. I stayed there a couple years ago and the elevator was…off. It wasn't just random stops; it felt deliberate, like it was choosing where to go. And the smell? Yeah, definitely incense, but something...funkier. I’m guessing it's just old wiring and a wonky control system, but the atmosphere of the place…it adds to the mystery, I guess. Maybe it's just old building quirks but a little spooky nonetheless.

Cognitio College Ghosts?

fmd_good Cognitio College

So, I'm heading to Cognitio College next week for a conference. Heard whispers about it being haunted – apparently some old dorm has some seriously creepy vibes. My uncle, who went there back in the… more

My aunt went to Cognitio College in the 90s. She never mentioned ghosts, but she did complain constantly about the food and the leaky plumbing. Maybe the "creepy vibes" were just really bad maintenance. Seriously though, old buildings can have that atmosphere – drafts, weird noises, things settling... Don't let a few whispers ruin your conference. Unless your uncle's ghost story involves a sentient leaky faucet...then maybe bring some sage.

Bishop Ford's Mystery?

fmd_good Bishop Ford Memorial School

So, I'm heading to Bishop Ford Memorial School in @HongKong next week for a conference – apparently, it's got this crazy history, lots of whispers about it being haunted or something. Old building,… more

The food scene near Bishop Ford is surprisingly decent! Skip the usual cha chaan tengs around the school – they're usually packed with students. Instead, try heading a bit further afield towards Causeway Bay. There are tons of little eateries down the side streets there, offering everything from noodles to really good dim sum. It'll be a short taxi ride, maybe 10-15 minutes tops, but worth it for better quality and less of a lunch-time scrum. You'll find something to your liking, I'm sure.

Central's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Central

So, I'm heading to Central next month, buzzing to finally explore Hong Kong Island after years of hearing about it. Everyone raves about the Peak Tram and the markets, but I'm curious about the quiet… more

Forget the Peak Tram hype for a second. Check out the backstreets around Hollywood Road. Loads of tiny, unassuming places crammed in there, mostly serving locals. You won't find them on any tourist map, that's for sure. It's a bit of a scavenger hunt, but that's half the fun. Seriously, just wander around; you'll stumble on some amazing little noodle shops and dim sum places, probably even some places your aunt would've loved. Prepare for some seriously authentic eats. And strong tea? You'll find that everywhere in HK.

Quarry Bay Eats?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

So I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week, it's for a work trip, and I'm really only gonna be there for a couple of days. Heard the food scene is amazing, but finding good recommendations online is lik… more

For dim sum, skip the big tourist traps and head to a smaller place in a residential area. You'll find better quality and lower prices that way. Ask your hotel concierge or even a taxi driver – they often know the best hidden gems (even if they don't advertise it). Street food's where it's at in Quarry Bay. Just wander around the backstreets near the MTR station – you'll see tons of little stalls and food courts. Don't be afraid to try something you don't recognize! That's half the fun. Look for places with lots of locals – that's usually a good sign. One more thing: Check out some of the smaller dai pai dongs if you can find one still open. They're becoming rare, but if you stumble upon one, it'll be an unforgettable experience. Seriously good, authentic Hong Kong eats.

Caritas Bianchi Lodge Mystery?

fmd_good Caritas Bianchi Lodge

So I stayed at the Caritas Bianchi Lodge last week – the views were incredible, seriously breathtaking. I mean, Hong Kong island spread out below, all shimmering lights at night... it was unreal. B… more

Spooky! That's a seriously weird find. Maybe it's just a quirky souvenir someone left behind, a forgotten trinket from a previous guest? Or maybe it's a weird inside joke among the staff... I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels around @Hongkong and @Singapore, and I’ve never found anything like that, though. A smooth grey stone? Sounds like something out of a movie. You should of taken a picture! Maybe post it online somewhere; you never know what might turn up. It’d be interesting to see if anyone else has a similar experience there.

Union Square Mystery

fmd_good Union Square

So I was in Union Square, right by the big fountain, last week. Crazy busy, as always. I saw this old guy, maybe 80, feeding pigeons. Nothing unusual there, except he was whispering to them. Serio… more

Hong Kong is…intense. I wouldn’t be surprised if some old dude was whispering secrets to pigeons. Sounds perfectly normal for Union Square, tbh. Maybe he's a retired fortune teller, using the birds as messengers or something. Or maybe he's just eccentric. Old people in Hong Kong are often pretty amazing in their own right. I've seen weirder stuff than that, honestly.

Image stefanie · · OP

That's hilarious! I can totally picture it. Hong Kong's energy is something else; it’s like the city itself whispers secrets. Retired fortune teller using pigeons... genius! I'd love to see that. Makes Union Square seem almost tame in comparison, lol.

Central's Hidden Laneways?

fmd_good Central

So I'm heading to Central next week, buzzing to finally explore Hong Kong Island properly. I've seen all the pics of the skyscrapers and the harbour, but I'm really interested in the smaller streets… more

Check out Hollywood Road. It's not exactly hidden, but it's got tons of character and leads off into smaller streets and alleys packed with antique shops, art galleries, and some seriously good dim sum places. Wander around that area and you'll definitely find yourself in some quieter spots. Also, poke around the area near Man Mo Temple – it's a bit of a maze back there, and you'll find some surprisingly peaceful little courtyards. Prepare to get a little lost – that's half the fun! Happy exploring!
