What are you spending it on?

Also, do you live alone/with someone else, or any other factors that may be relevant

If you're comfortable, how much per month (including rent)

single, living in neukölln, around 40-50€ on a weekday and maybe 70-80 on a saturday or sunday. weekday is mostly just coffee (3-4€ at a decent spot) and then whatever i grab for lunch, like a döner or bowl, that's 8-12€. dinner is usually cooking at home so maybe another 5-7€ if i'm being frugal. weekend i'll go out for a proper meal or drinks, easily 30-40€ just on that. i don't buy lunch on weekends though, usually sleep in and have a big breakfast.

biggest factor is honestly how many times i'm tempted by a späti run, those add up quick. monthly with rent i'm at about 1500-1600€ including everything, which feels standard for a one-bedroom here.

Couple living in Wedding, both working from home a few days a week. Weekday is maybe 25-30€ each, mostly because we share a lot of costs. Coffee is at home, lunch is whatever we meal-prepped or leftovers. Dinner out maybe once a week, that bumps it up. Weekend is where it gets spendy, probably 50-60€ each on Saturday alone if we're meeting friends at a Markthalle or going for a proper dinner in Kreuzberg.

The biggest difference for us is that we don't do späti runs, but we spend way more on groceries because we cook almost everything from scratch. We go to the weekly market at Leopoldplatz and that's easily 60-70€ on produce alone. Monthly with rent and everything we're around 2200-2400€ total for the two of us, which is pretty comfortable for a 2-room in Wedding.

If you're single and eating out a lot, your numbers make sense. But if you share costs and cook at home, it's way less than people think.

Living in Friedrichshain with a roommate, we split everything 50/50. Weekday I'm at maybe 20-25€ because I bike everywhere and skip the morning coffee shop ritual. My weakness is the bakery on Boxhagener, I'll grab a pastry there for 2€ and that's it until lunch. Dinner is usually something quick from the Turkish supermarket on Warschauer, the produce is way cheaper than the Bio markets.

Weekend is a different story because I'll go to a club night and that's 15-20€ entry plus 10-15€ on drinks inside, though I pregame at home to save. If I'm going to Berghain or about blank I budget an extra 30€ just for the inevitable late-night sausage stand afterwards. Monthly with rent and utilities I'm around 1300-1400€, which is manageable for my share of a 3-room Altbau.

Best tattoo artist in town?

arrow_drop_up 67 arrow_drop_down

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
