Hey folks!

I posted a similar post in Munich subreddit, but I think Berlin one is the best place to ask, cuz cmon, Berlin is the capital of entertainment in Germany and (worldwide?)

So, I don't know I never asked that, but seems like I sould ve, anyway, better late than never. Question is, does anyone from you here work in music industry, German scene or international or has anyone friends who works in such companies like Sony Music, Warner Music or Universal, Virgin etc.?

If so, I'd be so thankful to talk to you or help me get in touch with the anyone working there, especially with A&R department. Will appreciate any info you can provide me ❤️

Sleep well and good morning for those who just woke up!☀️

A friend of mine worked at Universal on Oberwallstrasse for a few years. The major label offices here are pretty closed off, you're right that cold emails go straight to spam. What worked for her was going to the smaller showcase nights like the ones at Gretchen or about:blank where label scouts actually pay attention, not the big tourist spots.

If you're specifically chasing the German scene, the A&R people I've crossed paths with at Sony were all at the Pop-Kultur festival or hanging around the canteen at Funkhaus. That building on Nalepastrasse has a few smaller labels renting rooms, and people are more approachable there than at the corporate towers.

yeah tons of people in berlin are in music, but it's less the major label world and more the independent scene tbh. if you're specifically after the big three (sony/warner/universal), they're all here but they're not exactly hanging out at the usual spots. the a&r people i've met tend to be at things like the reeperbahn festival or the berlin music week panels, not so much random club nights.

fwiw, if you want to network without a connection, try the "music incubator" coworking spaces like die musikwirtschaft or the ones in kreuzberg near u-bahn kottbusser tor. a lot of mid-level label folks work from there. also, bryan adams used to have a studio on köpenicker strasse, but that's not helpful. just don't expect to cold-email a&rs at warner and get a reply, they're buried. good luck with the search.

You should check out the monthly meetups at Monster Ronson's Ichiban Karaoke. Lots of indie label people and session musicians hang there.

Best tattoo artist in town?

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
