What has gotten better in Berlin in 2023?

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

ngl the club culture has actually gotten less pretentious. places like ://about blank and Else have started doing these early afternoon sunday sessions where the door policy is way more relaxed. used to be such a pain getting past the bouncers if you didnt look cool enough

also the supermarket delivery situation is way better now. Flink and Gorillas actually have decent stock and dont charge those insane service fees anymore. saved me so many hangover mornings having to drag myself to Rewe

the whole Tempelhofer Feld thing got a bit more organized too. they added more public grills and actual toilets instead of just porta-potties. still a free for all on sunny days but at least you dont have to pee behind a bush

the bike lanes have gotten noticeably better in some parts. like on Warschauer Straße they finally separated it from the car traffic instead of that painted line nonsense. still a mess in other areas but at least theyre trying now

also the food scene in Wedding has really stepped up. there's this place called Le Bon on Seestraße that does amazing banh mi for like 6 euro. way better than the overpriced stuff in Mitte

the whole digital nomad thing has calmed down a bit too. less people camping in cafes with laptops all day, at least in my usual spots around Pankow

honestly the ringbahn is way more reliable than it used to be. still not perfect but the constant signal failures on the S41/42 seem way less frequent now. also the new U5 extension to the Hauptbahnhof actually makes getting across town less annoying than having to transfer at Friedrichstraße all the time.

plus more Späti culture in Neukölln with actual decent beer selection instead of just the same old Berliner Pilsner. some places have started doing proper cocktails to-go which feels illegal but nobody cares.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
