I'm looking for a great place to do brunch on January 1st with 4-5 people. I am open to all kinds of cuisines, love especially middle eastern, vietnamese, etc.

I am not into allyoucaneat buffets and similar.

Does not have to be cheap, but comfy and nice cocktails or so.

Any ideas?

You could try Cafe Pförtner near Friedrichshain, they do a nice brunch with a solid cocktail list and the space is pretty relaxed for a group. It's not specifically Middle Eastern or Vietnamese but they often have changing specials that lean into different cuisines. For something closer to what you mentioned, look up Little Saigon on Danziger Straße, they do a Vietnamese brunch with pho and banh mi and have some creative cocktails. Just check their hours for Jan 1st, a lot of places open late that day if at all.

Cafe Muggel on Weserstrasse in Neukolln does a lovely brunch with a middle eastern twist, their shakshuka is fantastic and they make a mean blood orange mimosa. It's a small spot with a relaxed, almost living room feel so for 4-5 people you should try to reserve ahead, especially on a holiday. Walk down to Weserstrasse after for some coffee at Five Elephant if you're still hungry.

if you like middle eastern, check out kanaan in prenzlauer berg - it's israeli-inspired and they do a beautiful brunch spread with housemade breads and dips. not a buffet at all, more like shareable plates. they've got a solid cocktail menu too and the vibe is warm but not stuffy. jan 1st might be a challenge though, a lot of spots in berlin take that day off so i'd definitely reserve asap

Best tattoo artist in town?

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
