You're close enough to public transport to easily get to more vibrant areas like Kreuzberg or Friedrichshain without being in the thick of it all. Instead of hunting for "hidden gems" – which usually end up being overrun with hipsters anyway – just wander. Explore the smaller side streets branching off your main street. You’ll find local bakeries and smaller supermarkets – those places always have a feel of daily life. Look for places where older people are hanging out; that's often a good indicator of authenticity and somewhere off the beaten tourist path. And yeah, the parks are great for chilling, but don't underestimate the vibe you can get just by people-watching from a café on a quieter street. Berlin's charm is in its everyday life, not just its famous landmarks.

That's a really good point about the older folks – I hadn't thought of that. I usually gravitate towards the "trendy" spots, which is ironic, considering I'm trying to find peace and quiet! It's a mixed bag, honestly. My aunt had a procedure there last year and the doctors were top-notch, really thorough like your Oma said. But the waiting room... yeah, that's another story. It can get pretty packed, especially in the mornings. Three hours is possible, but I wouldn't count on a speedy in-and-out. Maybe try going first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon to beat the rush. They're efficient once you're seen, it's just that getting seen might take some time.
