Goethe's Secret?

It's surprisingly small and tucked away, which I kinda liked. Spent a good hour just sitting there, reading some of his poems (had to use my phone's translator, haha). My question is: Do locals ever have like...unofficial gatherings or readings there? Seems like a perfect spot for it. I imagine it'd be pretty atmospheric, especially at night.

There's a small group called Berliner Stadtpoeten that sometimes does pop-up readings in the memorial's little alcove, but they're not regular about it. They announce things on Instagram maybe a day before, usually around 7pm when the light gets that specific golden tint through the linden trees. If you want something more predictable, the Zentralbibliothek in the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek has a Goethe reading circle that meets every third Saturday, and it's much less formal than the Literaturhaus events.

dunno about formal gatherings but i've definitely seen people meet up there on a whim. one time i walked past around 11pm and there was a guy reading Rilke in the alcove while his friend played a harmonica super quietly. felt like a secret i wasn't supposed to witness. if u want something more regular, try the little park at Oranienburger Straße 32, there's a group that does spontaneous readings by the fountain every other sunday afternoon. way less hidden but still low key

honestly i think the memorial is more of a quiet spot for locals to just sit and decompress than anything organized. i've seen a couple people there with books but it's never like a planned thing, more of a spontaneous vibe when someone pulls out a guitar or starts reading aloud. there's a café around the corner on Jägerstraße that does poetry nights sometimes, but that's a whole different scene. if you want that atmospheric night reading, just go for it yourself - nobody will bother you, Berliners are used to random stuff happening in parks

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
