Berlin's Bureaucracy Bonanza?

Anyway, I've heard tales, whispered legends, really, about the sheer labyrinthine nature of the building itself. People say you can get lost for days in there, wandering through corridors that all look exactly alike, encountering only beige walls and slightly weary-looking civil servants. My question is: what's the best way to navigate this bureaucratic beast without accidentally becoming a permanent fixture? Seriously, I'm worried I'll end up as a filing cabinet myself. I've packed snacks. Lots of snacks.

One thing nobody mentioned yet, the building is split between the old and new parts and the connecting corridor on the second floor is easy to miss because it looks like a dead end. If you're headed to Referat IV or anything social insurance related you're prob in the newer block, which you reach through the courtyard, not through the main stairwell. Ask at the Pförtner log whether your room is Altbau or Neubau before you start walking, saves you a solid 15 min of wandering. Also the lifts in the old wing only go to certain floors, so factor in stairs.

What actually trips people up is the room numbering inside each Referat, not the building itself. Once you're past security and in the right wing, the individual offices run in a circle around the inner corridor, so room 12 might be right next to room 3. Don't trust the sequence, just follow the numbers on the doors themselves. And keep your Ausweis handy the whole time, not just at the Pförtner, because some Referate have their own second checkpoint and they will send you all the way back down if you left it in your bag.

Something else worth knowing, theres a decent Imbiss on Wilhelmstrasse just south of the ministry if you need a real break, the canteen situation inside is as grim as people say. Timing matters more than the map though, avoid Monday mornings and the first week of any month, thats when everyone shows up with Anträge and the whole place grinds. Tuesday or Wednesday early afternoon is way calmer, security queue drops to like 5 mins.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
