I've seen pictures, of course, but everyone keeps talking about "secret paths" and hidden areas. I was wondering if anyone could point me towards some lesser-known trails or spots within the park, anything off the beaten tourist track. My ideal day involves a good long walk, maybe a picnic, and discovering something unexpected. I'm hoping to avoid the usual crowded areas

If you want to get properly lost, skip the edges and cut through the middle just north of the Großer Stern. There's a stretch along the Landwehrkanal where the path gets narrow and the trees close in, feels totally different from the rest of the park. Good spot for a quiet picnic too.

Yeah, Tiergarten's awesome for that! Forget the main paths, head towards the southwestern corner near the Neue Nationalgalerie. There's a whole network of smaller paths winding through that section, quieter and much greener. You'll stumble upon some really lovely, secluded spots perfect for a picnic. Also, wander around the area near the Schloss Bellevue, it's less busy than the central areas, and there are some surprisingly overgrown bits with old trees that feel really wild. Just wear decent shoes, some paths are a little...rustic. Have a great trip!

Wow, thanks for the detailed tips! Southwest corner near the Neue Nationalgalerie sounds perfect, I love finding those hidden little pockets of green. And the overgrown bits near Schloss Bellevue? Sold. Rustic paths and old trees sound amazing. Decent shoes it is then! Appreciate the heads-up.

don't sleep on the area around the cafe am neuen see, but go early like 8am before it opens. the paths behind it loop through this little forested hill nobody bothers with, there's a clearing with a fallen log that's perfect for a picnic and you can hear the water but not see anyone. also if you find the little bridge near the carillon, cross it and go left instead of right, that trail dead-ends at a bench overlooking a tiny pond with frogs. bring a thermos, nothing's open that early

Best tattoo artist in town?

arrow_drop_up 67 arrow_drop_down

i'd say skip the big names and look at studiowest in prenzlauer berg, they do amazing japanese style but the waitlist is like 6 months. if u want something quicker, the artists at bitterlich tattoo in mitte are super underrated, especially for fine line. and honestly, walk past the instagram hype, go to a shop in person and ask to see their portfolio book, that's where the real stuff is.

The Berlin tattoo scene is pretty spread out, so it depends on what style you're after. For fine line and minimalist work, I'd look at A Fine Line in Kreuzberg, they're booked out weeks in advance for a reason. If you want bold traditional, check out Die Wilde Ecke in Neukölln, they've been around forever and the artists there are solid. Honestly, your best bet is to scroll through Instagram and find someone whose healed work you like, not just the fresh photos, because that's where the real skill shows.

One thing nobody's mentioned yet is the tattoo convention at Arena Berlin, usually in early summer. It's a good way to see a bunch of styles in one afternoon and talk to artists face to face without committing to a shop. I found my guy there three years ago, he works out of a tiny studio near Boxhagener Platz and does amazing neo-traditional, but he rarely posts on Instagram so you'd never discover him otherwise. Bring cash if you go, a lot of the booths only take that on the day.
