Grocery Shopping in Istanbul: A Hilarious Mishap

I was trying to find Turkish delight, figured, gotta get some authentic stuff, yeah? Anyway, I'm pushing this overflowing cart, nearly knocked over a display of olives (my bad!), and then... I couldn't find the checkout. Seriously, it was like a labyrinth. Ended up circling for what felt like an hour, dodging toddlers and aggressively competitive shoppers before finally stumbling upon the self-checkout. The machine only took cards, naturally, and my card wouldn't work. A very kind (and surprisingly patient) woman helped me out, bless her heart. I finally made it out with my Turkish delight... and a newfound respect for the navigational skills needed to survive a Turkish supermarket. The question is: Anyone else experience this Inter Gida checkout maze of madness? I need to know I'm not alone.

Weekday mornings are the secret, like that one person said. I've had the best luck at the Besiktas location around 9am, it's practically empty and the staff restock the deli counter right then so the cheese is still cold. The Bagcilar one is a different story, I went there once on a Saturday afternoon and immediately turned around, no amount of Turkish delight is worth that level of crowd anxiety. If you ever get stuck again, just head for the exit signs, they're actually visible if you look up past the hanging advertisements.

Inter Gida is definitely its own beast, but I think the real trick is knowing that the layout varies by location. The one on Ataturk Bulvari is a straight grid, while the one near Bagcilar is pure chaos. I always hit the produce section first at the Bagcilar one because if you leave it for later you'll be trapped behind a family reenacting a relay race with their cart. And the self-checkout machines there specifically reject any card that isn't a Turkish bank card, so I just default to the manned lanes with cash now.

ngl the real pro move at Inter Gida is going on a weekday morning before 10am. way less carts blocking aisles and the checkout lines are actually manageable

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
