The location was great, right by the East Side Gallery. Spent most of my time exploring that, which was amazing. The problem? My luggage never showed up. Seriously. It's still missing. I filed a claim, but, like, has anyone else had a similar experience there? What's the usual wait time for lost luggage to turn up? I'm starting to think my vintage lederhosen are gone forever.

honestly, i'd start calling the hotel's housekeeping directly, not just the front desk. they're the ones who actually find stuff when it gets left behind. had a friend lose a bag at the nhow last year and it turned up in a back closet after three days, staff just hadn't logged it yet.

also check with the taxi or shuttle company if you took one from the airport. half the time luggage gets left in the trunk and the driver just sticks it in their garage for a week. the lederhosen might be gone, but the rest could still show up if you bug the right people.

The East Side Gallery area is a weird mix of tourist traffic and local commuters, so luggage can end up in unexpected places. Check with the Spree-side cafes along Muhlenstrasse, sometimes guests grab the wrong bag by accident and leave it with the nearest shop. The staff at the Cafe 9 near the Berlin Wall Memorial have a lost-and-found bin behind the counter that gets overlooked. If your airline doesn't sort it out within a week, the hotel's liability insurance usually covers items up to a certain value, but you need to push for the written claim form, not just the verbal report.

I'd also try reaching out to the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe lost and found office. The U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations around Warschauer Strasse and Ostkreuz see enough turnover that stuff gets dropped off there all the time. It's a bit of a hike from the hotel but their online portal is pretty straightforward, you can file a claim without going in person.

Another thing - check if your airline uses a third-party baggage service like Bagport or similar. A lot of the smaller regional carriers out of Berlin contract that out and the tracking numbers look different from the airline's own system. The airport's baggage office at Terminal 1 has a separate desk for those vendors.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
