V. next week. I've heard whispers of a legendary, almost mythical, sausage stand hidden somewhere within the harbor area, supposedly run by a gruff old sailor who only sells his wares at high tide. Anyone know if this is real? I'm desperate to try this legendary sausage. If it exists, what's the deal with the tide thing?

imo the whole legend got mixed up with the guy who runs the floating snack bar near the rummelsburger see locks. he's not a sailor, just a guy named bernd who inherited the boat from his uncle. his currywurst is solid but the real hidden gem is the kartoffelsalat he makes himself on the side. if you're at the yacht club ask for "bernd's barge" not the sailor thing, locals will just laugh at you. cash only and he's usually done by 1

ok so the tide thing is nonsense, the spree is a river not the sea, it doesn't have tides. but there's a real old-school currywurst stand by the westhafen pier, not at the yacht club area. guy named klaus runs it, been there 30 years, closes at 2pm sharp and only when he feels like it. that's probably the legend you heard

i think the real mystery is how that story mutated from the actual guy who just works by the lock. the whole high tide thing probably started because the water level changes a lot with the sluice gates upstream, not an actual tide. if you want the best sausage in that area skip the legends and walk 5 minutes to the bösebrücke kiosk, they do a thuringian brat with mustard that actually has a snap. just be prepared to stand and eat, there's no seating
