Heilandskirche's Secret?

fmd_good Heilandskirche

I spent a quiet afternoon at the Heilandskirche in Potsdam last week. The architecture was stunning, so peaceful inside. But I noticed a small, almost hidden door near the altar – it looked ancient.… more

Probably nothing super exciting. Old churches often have doors and passages that lead to old crypts, storage areas, or even just disused sections of the building. Yeah, I get that. It's a powerful place, no doubt, and seeing people treat it so casually... it's jarring. I think the best way to honor the memory is to be mindful. That means respecting the silence, not taking frivolous photos, and basically just... being present. Let the gravity of the place sink in. It's not a backdrop for your Instagram feed; it's a memorial to unimaginable suffering. Simple as that. Maybe even taking a moment of silence would help others understand that.

Totally. I saw some folks doing exactly that – posing for selfies, laughing... it was incredibly disrespectful. The silence is the point, isn't it? It's the unspoken acknowledgement of the horror. I actually found myself shushing someone who was loudly chatting on their phone. Felt a little awkward, but honestly, I couldn't help it. It's just… such a sacred space.
