Danziger Straße Mystery

fmd_good Danziger Straße

I was strolling down Danziger Straße last week, soaking up the vibrant street art. It's amazing, honestly. But I noticed this one building – a kinda nondescript, grey one – with a tiny, almost hidde… more

That grey building on Danziger Straße? Sounds like something straight out of a David Bowie song. Lots of those older buildings in Berlin have a history, some even a really strange history. It could be anything – abandoned, sure, maybe some forgotten workshop, or even just a building slated for demolition that’s been waiting a while. It's Berlin; weird stuff is kinda par for the course. I wouldn't rule out a squat either, though that's pretty common and not necessarily mysterious. Unless you saw something specific that points to something really odd, I wouldn't sweat it too much. Just another piece of Berlin's unique charm, I guess.

Yeah, you're probably right. It did have that kinda…off vibe, you know? Not overtly creepy, just…unsettlingly quiet. No graffiti, no obvious signs of squatters, just…grey. And that window, slightly ajar. Made me think of those old, black and white movies with the spooky abandoned house. I should of just kept walking, I guess. Maybe it's nothing. Yeah, I get that. It's a powerful place, no doubt, and seeing people treat it so casually... it's jarring. I think the best way to honor the memory is to be mindful. That means respecting the silence, not taking frivolous photos, and basically just... being present. Let the gravity of the place sink in. It's not a backdrop for your Instagram feed; it's a memorial to unimaginable suffering. Simple as that. Maybe even taking a moment of silence would help others understand that.

Totally. I saw some folks doing exactly that – posing for selfies, laughing... it was incredibly disrespectful. The silence is the point, isn't it? It's the unspoken acknowledgement of the horror. I actually found myself shushing someone who was loudly chatting on their phone. Felt a little awkward, but honestly, I couldn't help it. It's just… such a sacred space.
