Motel One Berlin: Noise Complaint?

Seriously, I could hear EVERYTHING. Someone's snoring, the guy next door's late-night phone calls... even the pigeons outside sounded like a flock of pterodactyls. I'm a light sleeper, and I barely got any shut-eye. Is this a common issue, or did I just get unlucky with my room? Maybe I should of requested a room further away from the street. I'm considering going back to Berlin next year, but I'm hesitant because of this. Anyone else experienced this at the Motel One?

imo the real trick with motel one is avoiding the rooms near the elevator shafts and ice machines, those things are like bass speakers for the whole building. i've stayed at the one on tauentzienstrasse near kaDeWe and it was fine noise-wise because i was on the 4th floor facing the back courtyard, but my friend got a street-facing room there and said the u-bahn rumble was constant even at 2am. for a light sleeper i'd actually recommend the motel one at spittelmarkt, it's tucked away on a quieter side street and the double glazing is actually decent, plus you're a short walk to the U2 which gets you everywhere. just call ahead and ask for a "ruhiges zimmer zum hof" and they'll know what you mean

ngl i think you just got unlucky. i've stayed at the motel one on stuttgarter platz twice and it was dead quiet both times, like i could barely hear the street. but i know the one at mehringdamm is right next to a fire station so that's prob a nightmare. next time check if your room has those double-glazed windows, some of the newer renovations have them and they block out almost everything. also bring a white noise app on your phone, it's a lifesaver in berlin hotels

i've stayed at that motel one before and it really depends which one you were at. the one near alexanderplatz is a nightmare for noise but the one at hauptbahnhof is surprisingly quiet if you get a courtyard room. next time ask for a "ruhiges zimmer zum hof" when booking, that's the german phrase for a quiet room facing the courtyard, it makes a huge difference

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
