Totally. It's like, you see the photos and the displays, but you can't feel it, you know? That palpable tension... I was thinking the same thing about the human element. Did guards ever get tired of the monotony? Did anyone ever try to slip something past them? Those small acts of defiance, or even just everyday life happening in the shadow of such a monumental thing...that's what makes it really interesting. It's all those unspoken stories that make Checkpoint Charlie more than just a historical checkpoint. I might actually look for some historical fiction now. Good suggestion.
