Check out the area around the U-Bahn station, "Ernst-Reuter-Platz". There's a bunch of smaller Imbiss stands and Spätis around there that are surprisingly good and way cheaper than the Mensa. You'll find everything from Currywurst to Döner to some surprisingly decent Vietnamese places. Plus, it's a quick walk from most of the TU buildings. You'll see students everywhere. Also, explore the streets a bit further south towards Charlottenburg – you might stumble upon some family-run restaurants tucked away in side streets. They often have daily specials that are ridiculously cheap and delicious. Don't be afraid to just wander around and see what catches your eye! Good luck with the semester!

Doubtful about secret gardens within the Bundestag complex itself. Security's pretty tight there, you know? They're not exactly known for their laissez-faire attitude towards random wanderers stumbling upon hidden oases. However, Berlin has tons of unexpectedly lovely inner courtyards and smaller parks tucked away between buildings – especially in Mitte. You might find some surprisingly peaceful spots just a short walk away from the Bundestag. Check out some maps showing courtyards and smaller parks near the Reichstag Building. You could even explore the Tiergarten; it's huge and has quieter sections. It's definitely worth checking out regardless. Maybe you'll find your own little "secret" spot.
