The leaves were a fiery mix of red and gold, crunching delightfully underfoot. It's a beautiful spot, surprisingly peaceful considering its proximity to the bustling city. I'm curious though, does the atmosphere change drastically in summer, with all the extra foot traffic and maybe some street performers? Did anyone else notice a particular type of bird frequenting the trees along the promenade? I spotted a few, but couldn't quite identify them.

the crowds are fine in summer tbh, the real issue is the wasps near the linden trees in july. those birds you saw were probably eurasian jays if they had that flash of blue on the wing, they nest in the old oaks by the water fountain. if you want peace in summer go at dusk, the light hits the canal just right and the families have cleared out by 7pm

Yeah, summer on the Gabriele-Tergit-Promenade is a whole different vibe. Way more people, definitely. Think less crisp air, more... sticky. The street performers are usually pretty good though, adds to the atmosphere, I guess. As for the birds... I'm terrible with birds, but I always remember seeing a lot of pigeons. And maybe some starlings? It's hard to say for sure. It's still pleasant, just less of that quiet solitude you described. Maybe try going early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid the crowds.

Summer is definitely busier, but it's not overwhelming like the main paths in Tiergarten. The real change is the smell - the linden trees along the promenade bloom in June and July, and that sweet scent is strong enough to cut through the crowd noise. For the birds, those were likely Eurasian blue tits you saw, they love the oak trees near the southern end of the promenade. If you want a similar peaceful walk in summer without the crowds, take the S-Bahn to Botanischer Garten station and walk through the botanical gardens instead, it's only about 10 minutes away and costs 6 euros.

What is the correct spelling for a street name that appears differently on multiple signs in Charlottenburg?

I noticed that the street name is spelled differently on three separate signs in the Charlottenburg area. Can anyone confirm the correct official spelling and whether this is a known issue? Worth noting that Berlin street names have official umlaut and ß rules that trip people up, so a sign showing "Strasse" versus "Straße" is not actually a spelling error, just an older transcription. Same with "ue" versus "ü" (e.g. "Kantstrasse" vs "Kantstraße"), both are considered valid renderings and you'll see the ß version on the blue Schilder and the ss version on older plaques or in databases that predate Unicode. If the difference you're seeing is between those two forms, there's nothing to fix and both are technically correct.

if the signs u mean are the old enamel ones on the house facades those are often protected as Baudenkmal so nobody's allowed to correct them even if the spelling is outdated. the binding version is whatever is in the Berliner Strassenverzeichnis plus the entry in the Liegenschaftskataster, so if u tell me the street i can point u to the right Bezirksamt Mitte or Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf page. tbh the merged district thing is real but the facade signs are a separate story, theyre basically museum pieces at this point

honestly thats super common in Charlottenburg, the district offices were merged from older Bezirke and nobody ever fixed all the Schilder. if its a real street you can check the official strassenverzeichnis on berlin.de, that list is what the Burgeramt actually goes by. which street is it? some of the Kaiserdamm / Kantstrasse signs are notorious for this.
