I'm not a huge fan of anything overly spicy, but I'm open to trying new things. I'm hoping for something authentic, not just your standard pho. Maybe something a local would recommend? It's my first time trying Vietnamese food outside @Hanoi and I'm a little nervous about messing up the ordering. Really want to make a good impression on my date, you know?

fwiw the com tam is my go-to there. it's broken rice with grilled pork chop and a fried egg, super comforting and not spicy at all. the pork has this nice charred flavor from the grill and the scallion oil on top adds a lot. plus it comes with that sweet fish sauce to pour over everything, which is way easier to eat on a date than wrapping stuff in lettuce leaves. they're on weserstraße right near u-bahn hermannplatz btw, easy to find

for a date i'd actually go with the cari ga, the chicken curry. it's got this creamy coconut base with lemongrass and turmeric, barely any heat but super aromatic. comes with a baguette to soak up the sauce, which is way more romantic than it sounds. just split it and share, looks good on a date

If you want something that feels special without being a production to eat, go for the bún thịt nướng. It's cold rice vermicelli with grilled pork, fresh herbs, peanuts, and that same tangy fish sauce dressing everyone's mentioning. No assembly required, just toss it together at the table and eat. It's light enough that you won't be stuffed halfway through your date, and the char on the pork is the real highlight. They're on Weserstraße near U Hermannplatz, just past the späti on the corner.
