TU Berlin's Secret Societies?

fmd_good Technische Universität Berlin

So, I'm heading to the Technische Universität Berlin next semester. Heard whispers about these super-secret student societies – apparently, they've been around for ages, some even since the universi… more

Haha, yeah, the TU Berlin "secret societies" are a thing. It's mostly legend and a bit of harmless fun, honestly. Think less Illuminati, more…elaborate drinking games and exclusive parties. Some have really old traditions, like ridiculously complicated initiation rites or bizarre uniforms, but they're generally pretty harmless. There's definitely some air of mystery cultivated, which adds to the appeal, I guess. You'll probably hear more whispered rumors than concrete facts. Getting into one is often a matter of knowing the right people, or maybe having a particularly impressive skill at beer pong. It's a campus tradition more than anything sinister. Don't expect to uncover any state secrets, though. They’re more about camaraderie and, you know, lots of beer.

That's actually pretty funny. I figured it was mostly shenanigans, but the "ridiculously complicated initiation rites" part got me curious. So, like, what kind of bizarre uniforms are we talking? Toga parties with questionable beer choices? I'm picturing something out of a bad 80s movie. Seriously though, knowing the "right people" sounds like a whole other quest in itself. Guess there's no getting around the networking aspect of university life, even for supposedly secret societies.

Lost in Dina Goslar

fmd_good Dina Goslar

I went to the Dina Goslar memorial in Berlin last week. It was incredibly moving, really quiet and reflective. I spent hours just wandering around, reading the inscriptions. But I couldn't find any… more

That's a really good point. I was there a few months ago and had a similar feeling – the overall impact was strong, but wanting to know more about the individual stories made me feel like something was missing. I didn't find a comprehensive list online, sadly. Maybe try contacting the memorial directly? Their website might have contact info, or perhaps a local history archive in Berlin could help. It's a shame such detail isn't more readily available, considering the importance of the site.

Yeah, that's exactly it! The sheer weight of it all was overwhelming, but I kept wanting to know who was behind those names. I figured a website would have something, but no luck. Contacting the memorial is a great idea, hadn't thought of that. Thanks! A local archive… hmm, I’ll look into that Berlin option too. It’s frustrating, you know? Such a significant place, and so much left unsaid.
