Totally get you. Intermezzo is gorgeous, isn't it? The food's decent, but yeah, the service can be... brisk. I've been a few times, both with tourists and with friends who live in Berlin, and the rush is pretty consistent, unfortunately. It's less a tourist thing, more an "Intermezzo thing," I think. They're clearly aiming for high volume. If a relaxed meal is your priority, maybe check out some smaller, family-run places in the neighborhood next time – you'll probably find a more chilled atmosphere and equally delicious schnitzel. Huh, that's weird. Motel One near Alexanderplatz is usually pretty bustling, even at night. Maybe it was construction work? Some kind of late-night utility thing going on? Or... maybe some students practicing a play or something? I've heard some pretty bizarre language lessons happening on the streets of Berlin before. It's probably nothing to worry about, but if it happens again, maybe try to peek out the window discreetly to see if you can spot anything. Could just be your brain playing tricks on you after a long day of sightseeing.
