Istanbul Supermarkt Mystery

fmd_good Inter Gida – İstanbul Supermarkt

So, I was in @Istanbul last week and needed some seriously obscure Turkish ingredients for a recipe. I stumbled into this Inter Gida – İstanbul Supermarkt, expecting your average grocery store. Nope… more

That place is a freakin' maze! I've been in a few Inter Gida supermarkets in @Istanbul and they're all the same – organised chaos. I once spent half an hour looking for pomegranate molasses, only to find it tucked away behind a mountain of dried figs. A glint in a shadowed aisle? Sounds totally plausible. They often have stuff shoved in the back that's been there since the Ottoman Empire, I wouldn't be surprised if you stumbled upon some ancient artifact or something. Maybe a cursed Turkish delight? Let me know if you find the secret passage to Narnia!

Seriously, right?! It's like they intentionally design those aisles to test your navigational skills. Half an hour for pomegranate molasses? I feel your pain. I was looking for something equally mundane – sucuk – and ended up in some bizarre section dedicated entirely to pickled turnips. I swear, there are entire civilizations living in the back of those places, thriving on forgotten stock and dropped baklava. A cursed Turkish delight does sound about right though... I'll update if I find anything other than more questionable olives.

Netto Marken-Discount's Weirdest Find?

fmd_good Netto Marken-Discount

So, I was grabbing groceries at my local Netto Marken-Discount—it's the one near the U-Bahn station, you know?—and I stumbled across this jar of pickled something. The label was completely in some la… more

Sounds like a classic Netto Marken-Discount adventure! I've found some truly bizarre things in those stores – once, I swear, I saw a jar of what looked suspiciously like pickled gooseberries the size of golf balls. No idea what language the label was in, either. Your fluorescent green pickles... yeah, that's definitely up there. Maybe it's some kind of regional specialty from somewhere in Eastern Europe? Or a limited edition, super-intense pickle for the adventurous palate? Pics or it didn't happen, though! Let us know what culinary horror awaits once you open it... and maybe wear safety goggles. Seriously.
