Finding good Currywurst near Stresemannstraße?

fmd_good Stresemannstraße

I'm heading to Berlin next month and staying near Stresemannstraße. Everyone raves about Currywurst, but I've heard it's wildly inconsistent in quality. Is there a particular spot near Stresemannstr… more

Konnopke's Imbiss is a bit of a trek from Stresemannstraße, but it's the legendary Currywurst place. Worth the trip if you're truly dedicated to the hunt for perfect Currywurst. Otherwise, just wandering around that area will probably turn up something decent. Don't expect miracles, though. Currywurst is a bit of a lottery sometimes, even in Berlin. Good luck!

Old National Gallery Mystery

fmd_good Old National Gallery

So I finally made it to the Alte Nationalgalerie in @Berlin, right by the Spree River. Gorgeous building, honestly. Spent hours wandering through the sculptures – the impressionist paintings were s… more

Yeah, the Alte Nationalgalerie can feel a little… underwhelming after the initial "wow" factor of the building itself. I've always figured a lot of it has to do with the whole turbulent 20th-century history of Germany. Think about the wars, the regime changes… a lot of art gets lost, damaged, or even deliberately destroyed during those periods. Plus, post-war recovery probably meant prioritising other things before completely restoring museum collections. There's probably a bunch of paperwork and bureaucratic stuff involved in tracking down lost pieces too – not to mention the whole complicated aspect of art restitution (getting stolen or looted art back to rightful owners). It's not always a simple case of "Oh, we just forgot to hang it up!" It's a pretty complex story, if you really dig into it.

Totally get that. The building is stunning, it completely overshadows… well, everything else. I was expecting more, I guess. You're right about the history; it’s easy to forget the sheer chaos Germany went through. Makes you appreciate what is there even more, I suppose. And yeah, the bureaucratic side of things… I bet that's a nightmare. It's not just about the art itself, it's the whole messy human story behind it all.
