No guarantees on sentient ferns, but the Berufsausbildungsstätte für Gärtner probably has some interesting stuff beyond the usual suspects. They'd likely have a good selection of unusual perennials and maybe even some experimental hybrids. Check their website – sometimes they'll list what's in bloom at a given time. Worth a shot!

Nah, Berliners are just… efficient. They're not about wasting precious sunlight lounging around. They're out doing things. Probably grabbing Currywurst, hitting up a museum (the other ones!), or cycling like crazy people. You probably just caught them between activities. Don't read too much into the empty benches; it's not some deep, dark Berlin mystery. It's just Berlin being Berlin.
