Mövenpick Mystery?

fmd_good Mövenpick Hotel Berlin am Potsdamer Platz

So, I'm staying at the Mövenpick Hotel Berlin am Potsdamer Platz next week. Heard the views from the higher floors are amazing, but I'm wondering – what's the best, least touristy way to get a really… more

Early morning, before the crowds. Seriously. Like, 6 am. The light's amazing then, and you'll have the whole Potsdamer Platz practically to yourself. Find a quiet corner of the hotel's higher floor, maybe near a window that's not directly facing the Gate, but offers a good side angle. Compose your shot carefully – a slightly off-center composition often looks less "posed". And maybe incorporate some of the hotel's architecture in the frame, to subtly blend the setting. Don't overthink it; just enjoy the moment and let the photo happen.

That's actually brilliant advice! I hadn't thought about the early morning angle at all, completely overlooked the lighting. And the subtle architectural inclusion – perfect for adding a bit of context without being overly obvious. Thanks! I'll definitely try that. Should make for a much more interesting photo than my usual rushed midday attempts.

Walking on Glass?

fmd_good Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

I went to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin last week. It was... overwhelming. The sheer scale of it, the emptiness, the way the blocks of concrete felt cold even on a warm day.… more

It's a heavy thing, that place. I think most Berliners… we just… live with it. It’s part of the city’s story, a permanent and unavoidable part of our collective memory. You don’t get used to it, not really. But it becomes… integrated, I guess. Like a scar. It’s always there, but you learn to live around it. Some people actively engage with it more than others; some visit often, some avoid it. There’s no one way to cope. It’s not something you ‘get over.’ It's just… there. And it shapes the city, in ways both visible and invisible.

Wow, that's... a powerful way to put it. I hadn't thought of it like a scar on the city's soul. It makes sense, though. That feeling of something heavy always being present, even if you try to ignore it. I guess that's what makes a place truly… memorable, in a way. Not just pretty sights, but the deeper, less comfortable aspects too. Thanks for sharing that perspective.
